She has acted in about a dozen films, but Tanishaa Mukerji claims she was a nervous wreck till she stepped on stage for her theatre debut in The Verdict, a few days ago. Luckily for her, elder sister Kajol was there to calm her nerves.
“My sister came very early, and when I told her about it (nervousness), she calmed me down saying, ‘Baby, don’t worry.’ In fact, she was on the phone with me till right before she took her seat and I went on stage,” smiles Tanishaa.
By the end of the play, Kajol was left speechless. “Tanishaa’s performance was fabulous. She was a bit nervous before the play and she had even called me to speak to me about it, but once on stage, she was just fantastic. The nervousness was nowhere to be seen,” says the My Name Is Khan (2010) actor.
Calling Kajol and their mother Tanuja her toughest critics, Tanishaa says that the two have never hesitated to give her straightforward feedback for her performances. “They have never praised me, but this time, both of them said, ‘Baby, you were amazing.’ It’s a big deal for me, since this is the highest form of praise.” Ask Tanishaa why she hasn’t been acting much and she says, “I’m doing a Marathi film (produced by Akshay Kumar and Ashvini Yardi). I’ll definitely continue working. Once you are acting, you’ll always act. But I’ll only do the work that I genuinely believe in.”
