Dev D director Anurag Kashyap finally married long-time girlfriend, actor Kalki, in a traditional South Indian ceremony in Kalahatti, on the outskirts of Ooty, Tamil Nadu. Seated under a mango tree, the bride, dressed in a white sari with red border and zari work, solemnised their union with her groom, dressed in a simple white kurta and dhoti.
The wedding, which began at 10.30 in the morning, wrapped up by 12.30, after which guests were served traditional South Indian vegetarian fare, cooked by Kalki’s mother, on banana leaves.
While neither are of South Indian origin, Kalki is of French lineage and had been brought up in beach town Puducherry, Tamil Nadu.
The wedding audience was limited to around 40 family members and a few close friends. Anurag’s brother Abhinav, director of Dabangg, was present along with Udaan director Vikramaditya Motwane and wife Ishita, Rahul Bhatt, Vikas Bahl, who worked with Anurag on Dev D and actor-composer Piyush Mishra. The celebrations continued into the evening, where word has it that Anurag insisted on feasting on non-vegetarian fare and spirits. While the couple returned to Mumbai last evening, they’ve had to put their honeymoon plans on hold to accomodate Anurag’s next film Shaitan, which also stars Kalki, due to release on June 10.
