Similar outfits on two celebrities have become a recurring nightmare on the fashion block. When actor Kangna Ranaut, 24, and singer Anushka Manchanda, 26, stepped out for the same event in Mumbai last week, they may have never thought that they would end up wearing a similar dress.
Fashion-forward Ranaut’s black and white mini tulip dress from high street brand Zara bore a striking resemblance to Manchanda’s python print jumpsuit, which made the two outfits look like they’re made out of the same yarn, rather made from the other’s leftover material.
Clearly, wearing the same dress, print, or even accessories can belittle your look and be a major faux pas. So, are the designers and celebrities paying any heed to it?
Fashion designer Anjalee Kapoor says, “What is in trend gets picked up by many and that is what has happened with this print as well. Stylist have to keep a check on who’s sourcing from where, what is the most popular trend, print or pattern that is spotted most frequently in recent times.”
Fashion stylist Rishi Raj says managing a celebs look is a stylist’s job. “A celeb’s look is super important part of their image branding. Although, wearing a similar outfit is not a matter of life and death, I do feel that the personal stylists of these celebrities need to make sure that no such faux pas occurs.
The celebrities themselves are too busy managing so many other things, and if they’re paying a stylist, that person should update himself constantly and do a great job, so that the client doesn’t end up as a fresh meat for the fashion police,” says Raj.
Lately, many celebrities have been the victim of such ‘same pinch’ moments, however fashion designer Anupama Dayal believes that it’s the individuality that matters more than anything. “It’s absolutely fine, as each lovely lady brings her own individuality into the dress. Hope they sat and had a good laugh over it.”
Spotted in the same attire
Hollywood actors Kate Winslet and Penelope Cruz wore the same Stella Mc Cartney dress with halter neck detailing, albeit in different colours. While Kate wore hers at Venice Film Festival last month, Cruz was wore it to the Cannes Film Festival.
Singer Nicole Scherzinger wore a body-hugging black dress that was also seen on singer Miley Cyrus. Nicole’s appearance at GQ Men Of The Year Award was made after Miley made her red carpet appearance at her song’s release. Critics couldn’t help but compare who looked better.
Singer Britney Spears was seen wearing the same printed Herve Leger tube dress as reality TV star Kim Kardashian some time back. While Spears was spotted at Wango Tango event in LA, Kim wore the dress to a dinner date in Miami some time before her now trouble.
