Tanu Weds Manu’s makers touted it to be the ‘Biggest Wedding Gate Crash’ that ultimately turned out to be a pre-planned marketing gimmick. The film’s lead pair Kangna Ranaut and R Madhavan were supposed to be seen dancing their way in a baraat in the capital on Monday night. Media was informed that on the spur, they would decide to gatecrash any wedding on that evening and it would be a big surprise to the family. “The Baraat idea is exciting. We are keen on joining the wedding of an unassuming couple,” director Aanand Rai had said.

In the end, it turned out to be a completely staged affair, with a couple getting married in Kundan farms near NH8 not just in the know but also chosen after a contest organised by a radio FM channel. Everyone knew they are coming, including the couple Anand Gupta, 26, and Shikha Goyal, 24. Shikha could not hide her excitement and said, “I am looking forward to meet them.”

After a long wait, Kangna arrived at 10.15 pm, went straight to the stage, wished the couple and left in 30 seconds. Half an hour later, Madhavan came, congratulated the couple and left within seconds. So much for being the biggest wedding gate crash!!
