entertainment Updated: Mar 10, 2011 18:28 IST

Kareena Kapoor has joined the NDTV campaign for a safe India for women. Being an icon for women of today, Kapoor promptly agreed to advocate the channel’s cause. According to a source close to the actress, Kapoor feels very strongly for women of all classes and hopes that the issues concerning them will be taken more seriously.

"Why in our country is a woman, irrespective of her socio-economic status, so vulnerable? Is it too much to ask for women to be able to walk the streets freely without the fear of being assaulted or attacked? Be it Delhi’s streets or Mumbai’s trains, Bangalore’s BPO workers or the women being burnt on suspicion of affairs in Bundelkhand and women being killed for same caste marriages in Haryana... The list is endless. These are some of the issues that Kareena feels very strongly about," says the source.

KareenaThe Bollywood superstar wants the cold facts to be highlighted and is getting citizens to sign a petition to be presented before the President.
