Highlight Story

My week started with an audition for a role of a Bengali woman in a film. I went to Gem Dress

wala

at Andheri East amongst a pile of turbans, saris,

lungis

...the works! I finally found the perfect off-white slightly torn Bengali sari. The lady at the store, also Bengali, draped the sari Bong style and I walked out with my head held high.

I had my first round of auditions last week, where I flip-flopped a little. Flopped at the scene, but flipped when the director asked me to come back better prepared. I thought about my role, the situation and the explanation and watched a movie recommended by the director. I learnt some classic Baangaali

gaalis

(swear words) like

shoo-or-er-baacha

(son of a pig),

haramjada

and added more to my vocabulary. I was set and on a rampage. I finally rehearsed the scene at home on camera yelling

sho-or er-baccha

and psychotically hitting myself, for the lack of a co-actor.

Post hallucination, I was back in full form ready to bag the Filmfare award. They gave me one rehearsal and one final take. They were happy with the result and so was I. The jury (the director) is yet to come to a decision. The rest of the week was the usual yoga- shoga, gym- shym with a touch of star-gazing involved. I bumped into the boy- next- door and Deepika Padukone at my gym this week and the very pretty Dia Mirza too. I also saw Chunkey Pandey swimming at the Otters Club and spotted Anu Malik and Aftab Shivdasani fine dining. Wow! Aren't I happening!!

I got news midweek of my mom being in hospital, which had me rushing back to my hometown. Nothing too serious but it gave me a reason to be where I should be. Besides Yoga and the usual gym-slim routine, I’ve realised there’s an important ingredient that’s been missing. That new addition to my daily routine is prayer. For a few moments every night, I’ve been saying a silent prayer and I have to say, the few seconds of thinking and thanking makes me sleep a whole lot better! Now I need to get the man upstairs to help my mom recover soon. Wish you guys a fabulous countdown to Diwali.
