Kimye's extravagant Florence wedding was so Kardashian
Kanye West and Kim Kardashian's wedding had glamour and romance. The much-hyped wedding also had lots of drama, from Kim's brother Rob flying back to LA hours before the wedding to Kanye's rumoured best man rapper Jay Z, and wife Beyonce, skipping it.entertainment Updated: May 26, 2014 17:03 IST
Internationally acclaimed rapper Kanye West paid tribute to his new family by calling them "the most remarkable people of our time". He's clearly delusional; but we'll give the Kardashians this: the 'Kimye' wedding was anything but ordinary, in more ways than one.
11-month-old North West's parents, reality television star Kim Kardashian and West, tied the knot in front of some 600 guests in a sunset ceremony at Forte di Belvedere in Florence, Italy on Saturday, after a pre-wedding party at the Palace de Versailles in Paris. It was a celebration of celebrity branding, bling, a blaze of paparazzi flashbulbs and internet (read selfie) obsession.
And while an army of security officers had their work cut out trying to keep fans away from the bride and groom and their guests, which included Will Smith's teenage son Jaden Smith and director Steve McQueen, so did the Kardashian clan, which is famous for being famous.
The first family of US reality television has a reputation for keeping the gossip mills busy and did not let us down. There was glamour, romance, excitement, and drama, everything one would expect from the most-hyped celebrity wedding.
So, let's getting rolling with all the drama at the Kimye wedding.
The wedding and reception
Romance was in the air, literally! With Kim-Kanye holding hands in front of a giant wall of roses at their wedding ceremony at the beautiful 16th-century fort that they had hired to John Legend singing All of Me, live, for their first dance as husband and wife, this larger-than-life wedding was straight out of fairytales. The couple wore haute Parisian label Givenchy while exchanging vows.
The lavish Italian wedding had some cute moments too: Kim's mom and manager Kris Jenner was seen carrying baby North down the aisle, followed by the rest of the wedding party, including Kim's sisters and step-dad Bruce Jenner.
Also, at the reception, a love-struck Kanye couldn't be kept away from the microphone and on his first opportunity reportedly gave an eight-minute speech that introduced his bride.
Don't believe us, here's more.
"I just wanna stop the music a second 'cos my baby's coming back with a new dress on. Here she is: Kim Kardashian West," Kanye said, according to US media reports. Kim reportedly wore a beaded, custom-designed gown by Olivier Rousteing as her second dress for the day.
Later in the night, the Gold Digger rapper gave a 20-minute speech, calling his family and friends "warriors". He also said his wife was "the ideal celebrity … the ideal art" during his wedding toast.
That said, not everyone wanted to be a part of Kimye circus.
The big no-shows
With all eyes on the Renaissance Forte di Belvedere in Florence where the wedding took place, there were some notable no-shows. Kim's younger brother Rob and step-brother Brody Jenner were nowhere to be seen. Moreover, the man who was rumoured to be Kanye's best man rapper Jay Z, and wife Beyonce, were also missing from the revelry.
Rob Kardashian had been in Paris with his family for the pre-wedding celebrations and was to go to the wedding but instead flew to Los Angeles that day. It was reported he had a fight with his big sister. If you take gossip sites' word for it: she got angry because he hadn't made an effort to lose weight for the wedding. Ouch!
What's more, after plenty of speculation about whether Jay Z and Beyonce would attend, rumours were laid to rest when Beyonce's posted a make-up-free selfie on Instagram on the day of the wedding – clearly not ready to attend a lavish event – and later congratulated the couple.
"Wishing you a lifetime of unconditional love. God bless your beautiful family," Beyonce wrote on the Instagram post of a photo of the West family from their Vogue shoot.
In fact, Beyonce, Jay Z bailed on Kim and Kanye wedding in Florence to Hamptons for holiday weekend!
And they lived happily after
With the festivities over, the various Kardashians, Jenners, Wests and friends started leaving Florence but not before posting farewell pictures.
Khloe Kardashian posted this picture, wearing what looked like a bridesmaid's dress while she looked over the city of Florence. It was captioned "E vissero felici e contenti" in Italian, which translated to "and they lived happily ever after".
Kylie Jenner apparently liked the pose and posted her own version of the shot captioned simply with "goodbye".
What better time to cut loose than at your big sister's wedding?
And then there was the alleged Kylie Jenner-Jaden Smith kiss. Kim's kid sister brought close pal Jaden as her date to Kim Kardashian's wedding and they appeared to be having a grand time celebrating Kimye's nuptials.
In fact, the longtime friends were reportedly seen 'making out' during the lavish reception in Versailles, following the ceremony in Florence, US media reported.
Mother-of-the-bride Kris Jenner's revealing frock
As wedding traditions usually dictate, the etiquette in dress for the mother-of-the-bride is one of low-key and modest elegance.
However, perhaps Kris Jenner was given a little bit more freedom when it came to her outfit of choice for daughter Kim Kardashian's big day. The scene-stealing momager made sure she had her time in the spotlight on Saturday in a striking cleavage-baring clingy white dress.
But hopefully the 58-year-old consulted daughter Kim beforehand and got the go-ahead to show-off and no doubt turn some heads of own in the sexy frock for Saturday's events. Franca Sozzani, editor-in-chief of Vogue Italia, posted a picture with Kris in Florence on Instagram.
Now, for the honeymoon
Kim and Kanye have reportedly arrived in Ireland for a five-day honeymoon at a private country estate following their wedding in Italy.
The newlyweds are said to have flown into Cork by private jet on Sunday afternoon, reports contactmusic.com.
A source told the Irish Independent newspaper that the couple, whose daughter North travelled to Paris with her grandmother, Kris Jenner, landed at Cork airport and were met by a "fleet of Mercedes limousines".
The Keeping Up with the Kardashians star and her 36-year-old rapper husband are planning to enjoy five days at a "luxury private estate" in the country.
