Varsha Narayanan, a renowned eye specialist, may be a no-nonsense and a strict professional when she dons her doctor’s coat, but the 34-year-old daughter of Meera Ramachandran, principal of Gargi College, is also a qualified singer with two music albums to her credit.

Varsha recently released her second album, Ab Ke Baras, a collection of songs based on Indian ragas, adorned with contemporary sound. She has written and composed all the songs and sung most of them. Renowned musicians Shankar Mahadevan and Roop Kumar Rathod have also sung some songs in the album. Interestingly, the singer-doctor chose to release her album on Rebeat, a software that entitles one to upload music across all international stores.

“So far artists have had no choice but to surrender all copyrights to the record company which release their music. After that the artist not only loses the right to use the songs anywhere but also hardly receives any share in the sales... Thanks to this software, my music has been appreciated in the US, UK, Australia and several European countries and I still retain all rights over my music,” reasons Varsha.
