Highlight Story

With the rising mercury, it has become all the more important to keep it cool indoors. Nonetheless, the weather is ideal to replicate the cool and calming environs of a beach in your home and create your own seaside haven. “Beaches are renowned for their relaxed atmosphere with blue sky, gentle wind and warm water. Thus, such a decor will replicate its relaxed ambience into your homes,” says Sheena Khan of Chizzle.

Capture the Mood
Create an oasis of openness and soothing colours where friends and family can kick their shoes off and come to rest. To weave a beach theme through your home décor, usher in elements of the sun, sand and the sea. Get inspired from the colours, textures, and even the feel of a beach or sea shore and utilise these elements such as the light house, mermaids, star fish or other fishes, sea turtle, corals, pebbles, water bubbles, palm trees, sea shells, amongst others as prints, artifacts and motifs on accessories.

Sameer Hora of Idus says, “A thumb rule is to have bigger furniture pieces in neutral shades and add throws, pillows and accessories for that eye-catching element.”

Get the look right
Colour code:
Pick your colour palate from the blue and white sky, blue-greenish water or the golden or white sand. Mix pastel shades like pinks, sea greens found in seashells, and earthy tones like brown and beiges into the decor. You can choose amongst these shades for your walls, furnishing and accessories while keeping a balance.

Light furnishings: Use sheer curtains for the windows in colours of the theme. Upholstery and cushion covers should be selected in summery and breathable fabrics with motifs or prints from the seaside elements.

Inspired accessories: Add showpieces, pictures and figurines that reflect the sea-side style. You can also hang a miniature surfing board in a bright colour as wall art.

Naïve nature: Add tropical plants, fish aquariums or fish bowls decorated with pebbles, floated flowers and leaves to add to the outdoorsy beach feel.
