Lights on, this Diwali
Mall lights 10,000 oil lamps every evening for 14 days, organises cultural activities .
To celebrate Diwali this year, the parking lot of Inorbit Mall, Malad will be used to display 10,000 lit oil lamps over a period of 14 days.
The lamps will be lit for 40 to 45 minutes every evening by a group of people specially appointed for the purpose. Professional artists from around the country will perform cultural activities alongside.
Bridging differences Through the initiative, the mall plans to bridge differences and showcase a mix of Indian traditions. "Oil lamps are safer than crackers and are not noisy. They're a great way to celebrate an occasion like Diwali, and will make for a great display," said Nishank Joshi, head of marketing, Inorbit. Assisting them in this feat is Disney India, which had tied up with Inorbit during Christmas last year to build a castle in the atrium and organise other children's activities. This year, to break away from the image of being a children's channel, Disney will organise workshops and performances that cater to the family as a whole.
"The tie up is a concerted effort between us and the channel to draw in the entire family to celebrate together. Host Gaurav will conduct an art workshop and the lead actor from TV show Ishaan will have a dance performance. It's the Disney principle mixed with an Indian ethos," said Kishore Bathija, CEO, Inorbit.
The managers would like to think of the mall as a community centre for residents. Quite a few of their activities, which run through the year, engage people from the neighbourhood in courses on self-defence, water harvesting and jewellery appreciation.
