Pop star Lily Allen almost came to blows with rocker Courtney Love at the NME awards when a casual chat erupted into a full-fledged brawl.
The two stars were engaged in a calm conversation which suddenly turned into a heated exchange of words at the awards function on Wednesday night, reported Sun online.
Allen fled in tears after the pair, who both performed at the Brixton Academy on the night, had to be pulled apart.
"The two singers were chatting amicably at first. Then things turned really nasty and then aggressive. Courtney seemed to take offence to something Lily said about her daughter Frances Bean and started shouting at Lily, calling her 'a little girl' and patronising her by saying 'welcome to the music industry'," said a crew member who witnessed the incident.
"Lily was visibly shaken and upset by the exchange and snapped back 'Why did you say that to me?' before being ushered out in tears by her boyfriend Sam Cooper. It all happened very quickly and soon got out of hand," the onlooker added.
Love, 45, posted her angry reaction on the micro-blogging site Twitter.
"I know most people in rock and music in London and I don't know one human being that likes this person. I just don't get it. She's on a diet of Haterade and cat hiss and self-loathing. It was ugly, she was obviously jealous. So insecure, it's catchy, I just don't get it,(sic)" wrote Love.
