After a visibly plump Kajol left fans agape at a Mumbai event on Wednesday — her first appearance since she delivered her second child — the actor is planning to get back in shape.

Kads, who was last seen in the movie We Are Family, which released in September — the same month she delivered her son Yug, was clearly sporting her post-pregnancy weight in a white kurta and slacks at the music launch of her husband Ajay Devgn’s film, Toonpur Ka Superhero. Devgn’s fitness trainer, Shereveer Vakil, says Kajol is on her way to losing all that flab. “Kajol is training with me, though I can’t share details of her regime,” he says.

Other fitness experts also hope to help. “I had trained Kajol after her daughter Nysa was born (in 2003). She had joined the gym after three months, and lost all the weight within the same time. She is very focussed. Just wait and watch — she’ll get fit in no time,” says celebrity trainer Vrinda Mehta, who also trained actors Twinkle Khanna, Sonali Bendre and Sridevi after motherhood.

Even as Kajol is being compared with contemporaries Karisma Kapur and Malaika Arora Khan, who lost post-pregnancy weight within weeks of delivery, medical practitioners say going slow is the right way. “Till the time you are breastfeeding, which is usually for 4-6 months, one should not indulge in rigorous exercise,” says Dr Shivani Sachdev Gour, gynaecologist, Fortis La Femme Hospital. “One should not ape actors, because they are starved, and have personal trainers to help. Moreover, they are in a hurry since they are always in the limelight,” says Dr Jayasree Sundar, senior gynaecologist at Max Hospital.

Industry experts, too, say the social pressure is immense. “Actors need to look great, as they are always under the scanner,” says trade analyst Taran Adarsh. Karisma Kapur, who gave birth to son Kiaan in March, showed off a perfect figure on the ramp in October. On rumours that she went under the knife, she had said, “I spent hours at the gym to lose 23 kilos.”
