The plot revolves around an actor (Hrithik) who is caught in the web of his own stardom. A producer (Rishi Kapoor) who is finding it hard to find stars for his film. A star kid (Isha Sharvani) who is getting into 'Helloji Namasteji' mode. A diva (Dimple Kapadia) who is looking at taking her brand name forward. A film maker (Sanjay Kapoor) who looks towards the west for inspiration. Yet, director Zoya Akhtar insists that Luck By Chance is not a spoof on the film industry. She even denies that her film is getting into the underbelly of Bollywood.
Talking to media more about the film she says the film will show a lot though of how the film industry functions. She adds that it's a journey of two strugglers, how they meet and who are the people from the industry they meet on their way. Other than Farhan and Konkona Sen Sharma, the film is also about a producer and a diva and the star kids.
On real life inspirations she is quick to add "a lot", else Luck By Chance couldn't have shaped the way it has today. She even shared examples of people whom she hung out with or interacted with like the extras, dancers, hair stylists, assistant directors etc.
As per Zoya, the film is more of a satire. She clarifies that it definitely is not spoof. As she adds that most people in the industry are entertaining by themselves in any case. Anyway, there is no need to spoof them; just portray them the way they are and that's entertaining enough, she adds.
