Andheri Sports Complex was the venue for the grand celebration of the 50th year of Maharashtra Day (May 1). The event kicked off at 7 pm with Babasaheb Purandare felicitating grand children of the Hutatma(freedom fighter's of Maharashtra).Next in the line was a performance by Shankar Mahadevan on the song Dheemahi praising Lord Ganesha. Dancers set the stage on fire by their energetic performances.

Post the performances, host of the event, Raj Thackeray came on stage and honoured people who have made the state proud. Sachin Tendulkar, Ravi Shastri, Dilip Vengsarkar, Sunil Gavaskar, Dattatre Maheshkar, Kishori Amolkar and Suman Kalyanpurkar (singer) were a few of them. Later, a play depicted the political landscape of Maharashtra over the last five decades. Thereafter, the performers came on stage and the crowd stood in silence for the National Anthem. The ceremony closed with a fireworks display.
