There’s no need to watch the promotions of Phantoms, Porsches, or any other dream machines and sulk in jealousy. Amanpreet Ahluwalia of Speed Bugs, a car modifier, can help you live your dream. Says Amanpreet, “I have modified Mahindra 540 army jeep into an American Wrangler and a Contessa into 1967 Shelby Mustang. It has 2-door conversion and a music system worth Rs 1 lakh. The latest car I am working on is the Maruti 800.”

What does he think one can do with a small Maruti? “We can chop off the roof and make it a convertible,” explains Amanpreet. The cash you must part with for such modifications is nowhere close to what a high-end car would cost. Gurjeet Singh Behl of Limousine Auto Care has the likes of Vijay Mallya, chairman of UB group, and Nitesh Kunj Bhardwaj, brother-in-law of Shah Rukh Khan, as clients. He says, “The cost can be anywhere from Rs 3 lakh to Rs 25 lakh. However, it depends on which car you are working on and what you want to turn it into.”

Former Air Marshal MS Bawa, who got his Honda Accord modified into a stretch Limo, says, “I have stretched my car by 3 feet, apart from fitting other features that an original Limo has.” And how does it feel to own such a car? “It’s nice to take the car onto the roads as it certainly make people freeze for a moment to take a good look,” says Bawa with a smile.
