Vikram Lamba, brother of Bollywood siren Mallika Sherawat was Tuesday arrested for injuring a person after accidentally firing a bullet from his licensed revolver two days ago, a police official said.
Lamba was Sunday morning cleaning his 0.45 bore revolver at his office in Bhaktani Towers when the weapon accidentally fired allegedly by filmmaker Mahesh Bhatt's son, Rahul Bhatt.
"We have booked Lamba under the Indian Penal Code under Section 336 (endangering the life or personal safety of others) and Section 337 (causing hurt by act of endangering life or personal safety of others)," Borse told IANS.
The stray bullet ricocheted off the corridor of the nearby Central Institute of Fisheries Education (CIFE) hitting CIFE student Pravin Patil. The bullet fragments injured Patil, Borse added.
Rahul Bhatt, his friend and son of filmmaker Mahesh Bhatt, was also present, according to Versova Senior Police Inspector Sharad Borse.
Mahesh Bhatt has come to the defence of his son saying, “Rahul just happened to be a witness to this incident. He did not fire the gun. It was an accident and could’ve happened to anyone. It was totally unintentional,” says daddy Bhatt.
Last year too, Rahul ran into trouble for his association with David Coleman Headley, an accused in the 2008 Mumbai attacks.
