National award-winning filmmaker Omung Kumar will direct a film based on the life of Sarabjit Singh, the Indian prisoner who was murdered in Pakistan in 2013.

Omung’s directorial debut ‘Mary Kom’ won the best popular film award at the recently-concluded 62nd National Film Awards.

“Yes, I will be directing and co-producing the Sarabjit film. Even though I have three scripts lined up, this will be my next film after ‘Mary Kom’,” Omung said in a statement here.

In the film, Sarabjit’s story will be told through the eyes of his sister, Dalbir Kaur.

It was reported that actress Kangana Ranaut was in talks for Dalbir’s role. However, filmmakers said they were yet to finalise an actress.
