Spagetti 24x7 brings you and Mimoh together on screen for the first time. Was the shoot fun?
Yeah. Mimoh and I have even danced together. The boy’s good, he showed no signs of nerves. It’s a hip hop meets Bhojpuri kind of number, and Manoj Tiwari, Bhojpuri superstar, has sung for me in the film.

Isn’t it a disadvantage for them to be Mithun Chakraborty’s sons and be doing movies that invite constant comparisons?
I’d say Mimoh and Rimoh are lucky to be born as my sons. At least they don’t have to go through the basic struggle. Being Mithun Chakraborty’s sons makes them a star package. But as a parent, I can only ease the way for them and teach them the ropes. After that, they too have to go through a trial by fire.

Phir Kabhi co-starring Dimple Kapadia is a mature love story…
(Cuts in) Yeah, it is the story of a man who is lonely after his wife’s death. He gets a call from his ex-girlfriend. Both of them despite having gone down different paths are still clinging on to old memories. His granddaughter steps in to play Cupid. It’s a beautiful film that has won six awards.

Yet, it’s releasing on DTH?
That’s most upsetting. I’m really angry about this decision and have no hesitation saying so. We do films like this even when they don’t benefit us monetarily because we believe in them. But this negates the whole effort. The film needs a decent release. All those who have seen it have raved about it.

Weren’t you also disappointed that Veer didn’t fare better?
It grossed Rs 41 crore in the first week and that’s not a joke in today’s time. The film rocked in the single screen theatres. The response to both Salman and my performance has been overwhelming.

What’s been the response to your eight-pack?
(Laughs) Good. And so also to my dhamakedaar (firebrand) dialogues. Salman who scripted the film took special care to flesh out my role and gave me some good lines. That speaks of his big heart.

Have you seen Chance Pe Dance?
Not yet. Why?

Well Shahid Kapoor has done Michael Jackson’s Moonwalk in the film.
Yeah, I’ve heard, Shahid is a good dancer.

Talking about dance, the response to Dance India Dance Season 2 has been terrific.
The TRPs are soaring, it’s bigger than Season 1 and on it’s way to becoming a hit franchise. Even Dance Bangla Dance is into its fifth season and has achieved cult status.

You seem to be much more comfortable in your role as Grand Master.
Yes, it’s easier this time around though I have to tell you that TV is far more difficult than it looks. We don’t have a script so most of the time I’m improvising on lines, trying to make people laugh.

What’s your take on this present DID contestants?
They are terrific. I was bowled over in the first episode itself and could not take a decision. I had to call it a draw and asked for another performance and that proves just how talented this lot is.

But do such shows really offer the much-dreamed-about Bollywood break? Where’s Salman Khan, the winner of Season 1, today?
Dance India Dance is not an entry to Bollywood, it only gives these youngsters a platform to showcase their talent. We don’t claim to be hunting for Bollywood superstars. It is a talent hunt contest. Period. But it can, and has, turned nobodies into somebodies. It’s your ticket to fame. After that, like any other star aspirant, one has to go through the grind. There’s no easy way out. Salman, he was a guest on my Dance Bangla Dance recently and I learnt that he’s been taking acting lessons. If it’s in his destiny, we will have another Salman Khan.
