On November 9, the Supreme Court dismissed Monica Bedi’s “double jeopardy” argument challenging her conviction in an Indian court after being convicted of the same offense in Portugal. But the apex court reduced the five-year sentence awarded by a sessions court in Hyderabad, brought down to three years by the Andhra Pradesh High Court, to a two-and-a-half year jail term she has already undergone.

The 35-year-old actor was extradited from Portugal in 2005, along with her 42-year-old boyfriend Abu Salem, a key accused in the 1993 serial bomb blasts case in Mumbai. Salem is facing trial in nine cases, including two for murders. Bedi has been out on bail after serving her sentence but was not allowed to travel abroad.

Monica Bedi"The first thing I’m going to do is apply for a new passport. I lost out on a lot of good work because I was not allowed to travel abroad. There were so many restrictions and explanations but I’m free now," Bedi says, adding that she’s in talks for another reality show and a couple of movies, but refuses to divulge details.

“Life’s been difficult, but no regrets. My troubles have made me stronger. I never lost faith in God and today, he’s moved the obstacles in my path,” she says.

The actor, who first opened up about her past on Bigg Boss 2, admits she’s been watching the current season of the show. “The participants are interesting but with all the beeping going on, you can hardly catch any of their words,” she laughs, saying that being in the House can make you act and talk crazy. “I can empathise with the inmates because I know your brain stops working inside. Bigg Boss will be special because it marked my comeback.”
