Ranbir Kapoor talks marriage and why he was in a big hurry to get hitched four years back. As one of Bollywood’s most eligible bachelors, Ranbir Kapoor is used to being hounded by questions about his relationships and marriage plans.

The 30-year-old, who plays a free-spirited man in his upcoming film Yeh Jawaani Hai Deewani (YJHD), says he is in no hurry to settle down just yet. He says, “Not many know that I had 28 as the number in my mind (as the age to get married by); but I’m past that cut-off age now. Now there’s no point (in having a new deadline).”

Ranbir says that he is at a stage in his life where he doesn’t want to get married right away. “But I truly believe in the institution. My parents (Rishi Kapoor and Neetu Singh) have been married for 30 years now and today, they are friends and share a great camaraderie,” he says.

The actor adds that he would also like to have the same chemistry with someone special. Otherwise, “Ek din main buddha ho jaunga, mota ho jaunga aur baal chale jayenge (one day, I’ll turn old, get fat and lose hair). I won’t have movies to work in, with no attention or fans, but I will have a wife by my side,” says the actor whose only known serious relationship was with his YJHD co-star Deepika Padukone.

Ranbir also confesses that four years back, he was in a hurry to get married, but his friend, director Ayan Mukerji, advised him not to rush into it. “It’s just that I was in a bit of hurry (to get married). So, he told me, ‘Since you’ve just started you career, consolidate it and then think about marriage.’ Today, when I look back, I feel I took Ayan’s advice a bit too seriously,” he says, with a laugh. And who was the girl in question? “It’s not fair to reveal her name now,” he says.
