Need a portfolio?

Miss K

It is that time of my life again when I need to shoot a new portfolio. Now that I have graduated from modelling to acting, I need a new set of pictures that showcase me as myself, minus the Bouffant. So after ransacking my cupboard, begging, borrowing and stealing, I zeroed in on the looks I need to capture. Here's what my list looks like...

1. Commercial Closeups
Some nice simple pics keeping the styling basic; a black top, jeans and a million-dollar smile. These kind of shots come handy for commercial work and are a must have.

2. Beauty shot
A nice clean shot of the face that needs to be beautiful. Dream of your face on beauty products or soaps? Then this one's for you!

3. Femine/ Girlie
Everyone loves girls who look like... girls; who blush, giggle and fall in love…not necessarily in that order! Think feminine, think floral, think romantic and dreamy.

4. Cute/ spunky/ bubbly
This, ladies and gentlemen is the most stereotypical “type” people look for in ads, and films, especially since Preity Zinta hit the silver screen. Think shorts and T-shirt and loads of naughty smiles. No picnic balls though please!

5. Hot
Hot doesn’t hurt. Everyone wants to look smoking. Being an actress, you are expected to be able to ooze the oomph. Attention: hot doesn’t mean skin/lingerie shots! It is more in the eyes, and working that attitude. Keep it classy!

Depending on what sort of work you want, include more looks suited to your personality that is an Indian look, swimwear etc. Play around with your hair and alternate between straight/ natural/wavy or tied up, just not all at the same time! Guys need to experiment with facial hair that is clean shaven, stuble, or the goatee, if it’s your thing.

Point to be noted
Though everyone wants to be everything in his or her portfolio, it works best to try and tap into your forte and focus on getting that right. People love looking at you and putting you into a slot. You might be versatile but identify which type fits you best and nail it. Anushka Sharma fits the Punjabi kudi to the tee and Deepika is essentially the girl next door; though they are capable of playing different kinds of roles. This is probably what is first nature to them, right? So play that pout right and don YOUR avatar! :)
