Actor Jacqueline Fernandez who was in Delhi last week, is by her own confession, a big fan of Christmas and celebrates the festival with great fun and frolic. However, this year is going to be different for her.

As she posed for an X Mas photo for HT City readers, she picked a pristine white outfit and skipped the bright red Santa coat and the Santa cap in protest against the brutal gangrape in Delhi, that has prompted the youth across the country to take to the streets.

“I think that Christmas can be celebrated in its true spirit in India only when every girl in the country feels safe and protected,” said Jacqueline.

Meanwhile, the youth in Delhi have been braving government crackdown to protest. On Monday, even the closure of major Metro stations and roads could not contain the protesters.

Amitabh Bacchan
The students and the youth have won ... salutations to them all for waking up the system !! When a nation wakes up to reality, it will take much more than water canons to quell them” Big B wrote, but he also criticised the government’s crackdown on protestors, “Pained and horrified to see what unfolds in Delhi ... peaceful protest being met with tear gas and water canons !!”

Anupam Kher
India has great Future. Thanks to it’s youth. You can’t fool them. You can’t frighten them. You can’t suppress them. Jai Ho.”

Shabana Azmi
All over the world it’s the young who are the harbingers of change. Don’t let energy dissipate. Become catalysts.”

Shekhar Kapur
Indian youth have proved they are not just demographic statistics in economic models. They are a potent and fiery political force of change.” Kapur further tweeted, “Wld it not have been easier for President n Prime Minister 2 come out n speak 2 students rather than shut down all Delhi Metro’s? Why should protest be confined 2 screaming, abusing, n walk outs in parliament?”

Onir
Politicians should address the problem but leave the protests to peaceful students. Dont let the goons come in.”
