Sujata Reddy catches up with Raima Sen and talks about her link up stories with co-actors, her sister Riya and more..
What’s the new rumour you’ve heard about yourself?
(Laughs) There are three.. that I’m dating Randeep Hooda.. that I’m dating Yuvraj Singh, and that I’ve put on oodles of weight. A tabloid recently carried a picture of mine which gave the impression that I’ve put on 100 kilos. Not true. I admit I’ve gained a few kilos but that’s it. Anyway, I’ll make a few public appearances.. so people can see for themselves.
How do you handle link-up stories?
My family pacifies me by saying that at least I’m important enough to be in the news. That is the perception in Mumbai, not in Kolkata. I’ve noticed that I’m linked to a co-star every time my movie is about to be released. I guess people from the unit generate this sort of buzz. I was linked with Tusshar Kapoor at the time of C Kkompany and Abhay Deol during Manorama Six Feet Under. How come I’m not linked with them any more?
Your sister Riya and you are acting together for a Bengali film.. is that a big deal?
Ask the media, not me. The film’s Nouka Dubi and it’s directed by Rituparno Ghosh. Riya and I don’t have any scenes together. Ritu is very clever.. he’s reversed our personalities. Riya is the demure one while I’m the outgoing one. Ritu is very impressed with Riya’s work.. which means she must be really good.
How different are Riya and you from each other?
(Smiles) We’re not like chalk and cheese. We have the same circle of friends, same ideas. The only difference is that I like to read while she’s a computer freak. She watches more movies than I do. She doesn’t play scrabble but I’m addicted to its online version. I compete with people from all over the world.
What are you doing in Mere Khwabon Mein Jo Aaye?
I’m Maya, a small town woman who wants to be a singer. After a reality show, I become part of a band. Maya has an imaginary friend.. Randeep Hooda.. who sees her through all sorts of crises.
Ever watched a reality show?
Indian Idol, but not to prepare for my role.
Any one you look up to?
My grandmother Suchitra Sen. She was from a middle class background.. one of seven siblings and the only one who made it to the movies. I admire the fact that now she wants to be completely away from the public eye..
You seem to have an image of a serious film actress. Was it conscious?
Nope. But I don’t want to fight it and go glam. That’s only for photo-shoots. I’ve made mistakes before, now I’m doing two-three movies a year. I’m happy but not content..
