On Sunday night, singer Christina Aguilera was slammed by fans and critics after she fumbled over the lines of the American national anthem. Aguilera was singing before the start of the opening match of the National Football League’s Super Bowl XLV.

Cyberspace is abuzz with criticism against the Grammy-winner. The Washington Post started a poll, while the NY Times wrote, “her flub was heard by millions”. “She ripped the anthem to shreds,” wrote Hannah, a blogger. “That’s what you get when you hire a skank,” wrote Dean.

On-stage faux pas are always hard to live down, say desi singers. Shaan recalls calling the Royal Albert Hall in London the Wembley Arena. “I tried to cover up by saying we don’t perform for venues but for our audience,” he says. Kunal Ganjawala says, “I was performing in Guwahati when I realised my pant’s zipper was open!”

Singer Sophie Choudry recalls a performance that she was lip-syncing, and the CD got stuck. “I went on as if nothing happened, but later I went and bawled.”
