Only he Khan do it!

When Aamir Khan invites, even the most bitter rivals turn up. That seemed to be the case when Raj Thackeray and Uddhav Thackeray, heads of two rival political parties in Maharashtra, turned up with their wives at a party hosted by Khan for newlywed nephew, actor Imran Khan, and his wife Avantika, on Saturday evening.

And when the Thackerays came, hopes of seeing the two biggest rivals — in Bollywood, Shah Rukh and Salman Khan, — and in business, the Ambani brothers — under one roof, also heightened. While Salman duly came with brothers Arbaz and Sohail to wish the couple, Shah Rukh decided to turn up with wife Gauri well into the wee, when many had given up hope of seeing him.

On the biz block, while Mukesh and Nita Ambani graced the occasion, clearly the most star-studded party in recent times, brother Anil decided to miss out.

The party, held in a simple, classy setting by the poolside at a Mumbai five-star, saw almost the entire film industry in attendance. While the male brigade was represented by actors Akshay Kumar, Salman Khan, Hrithik Roshan and cricketers Sachin Tendulkar, Virender Sehwag and Yuvraj Singh, the leading ladies at the do included Kareena Kapoor, Priyanka Chopra, Rani Mukerji and Katrina Kaif, among others.

Among the filmmakers present were Vidhu Vinod Chopra, Rajkumar Hirani and Yash Chopra. While Imran wore a black achkan suit, wife Avantika wore a red and mehndi-green lehnga and kept up with the trend by doing up her hair in a side braid.

While smilingly greeting hundreds of guests, Imran would duck behind the stage every now and then to grab a bite or take a sip of his drink.

Aamir Khan and Kiran Rao played gracious hosts, with Aamir looking dapper in a black suit and beard while Kiran trying unsuccessfully to keep everyone from stepping on to the long net train of her glittery sharara.

The four wall-sized panels with childhood photos of Imran and Avantika were the highlight of the decor.
