A few days after a newcomer actor Yuvraaj Parashar accused renowned film director Onir Dhar of molesting him, gay activist Ashok Kavi has revealed that the accuse himself is gay and that the actor is defaming Onir.
Ashok Row Kavi is the chairperson of Humsafar Trust, an NGO that works for LGBT (Lesbian Gay Bisexual Transsexual) rights and Parashar is an actor in the film Dunno Y... Na Jaane Kyun. Onir Dhar is the director of critically acclaimed films like My Brother Nikhil and Bas Ek Pal.
Kavi lauded Onir's openness about his sexual orientation and was rather specific about other homosexual directors in the Indian film industry.
"I have tremendous sense of respect for Onir. Unlike five other leading directors in the industry, he's the only person who's come on board with his sexuality not just through his films but also in his acceptance of himself," Kavi told Mid-Day.
He went on to say that Yuvraaj was a struggling actor who came to Mumbai eight years back and "has been using all means possible to get any kind of publicity."
Kavi not only claims that Parashar is openly gay but even said he'd met the actor's partner at the Kashish Film Festival, addding that Yuvraaj used the name of the Humsafar Trust for the publicity of his film.
Meanwhile, Onir is not only outraged by the accusation but also intends to sue the actor for molestation charges.
“This is a lie and blackmail for cheap publicity. I am contemplating legal action. I will not be ashamed of myself and not let anyone malign me,” Onir told Hindustan Times.
Parashar retorted saying, “Let him send the notice. I will respond to it. Why will I seek publicity on his name? He is not Yash Chopra. When he attacked me, I tried shoving him away but he started hurting me and touching me on sensitive body parts. I even shrieked in pain,” Hindustan Times.
Actors like Sanjay Suri and Purab Kohli and some of the industrial fraternity have come out in support of the director. But most wonder why actor Yuvraaj Parashar decided to approach the media and not the police if he was molested.
