This is how it goes, when a luxury brand offers you an all expenses paid invite to come to Paris for fashion week, stay at the tres chic, Le Bristol and wear fabulous designer clothes for a fashion shoot…you jump at it!
I count these opportunities as the small blessings and the highlights of my profession. Who doesn’t love Paris in the springtime? A stroll down the Champs Elysees, cappuccino in a tightly packed café in St. Germaine, the flea market in Mont Matre, partying at the legendary Castile, browsing the shops on Rue St. Honore, watching the world’s top models strut their stuff alongside the Louvre and a chance to meet the fabulous Marc Jacobs backstage. Add to that the inimitable Parisenne style and the almond croissants and it’s a recipe for a small slice of heaven!
That’s what my week has been like! I know, I know, I’m sorry to gloat, but I can’t seem to wipe the smile off my face. On the down side, it was freezing! At the shoot, the camera battery froze right at the start! It was a sign of things to come — both the photographer and his subject (me) were frozen by the end of it too! I bet that if you stare at the pictures real hard, you will hear the clatter of my teeth and knees. Though I don’t really drink, I was forced to chug down a mug full of Brandy and hot water and soon couldn’t feel a thing! Navigating the cobbled streets of Paris in 5-inch Louboutins is quite a feat! Show me a woman without a smudge of vanity and I’ll lay off Louboutins forever!
I’m off now on the second phase of my journey, a twelve-hour flight to Los Angeles, with the legendary photographer Mario Testino onboard too! I’m not the best flier so am pretty sure I’m going to be quite antsy on this flight! May write some more though. I thank you for all the emails and feedback on the last two articles! This one is in a lighter vein; there will be more deep stuff later, but until then do allow me a few indulgences in La Dolce Vita! Enjoy your week and stay safe.
