Highlight Story

Arshad WarsiHe has struggled hard to achieve stardom: he worked in a photography lab and ran a dance school before he was chosen to act in ABCL’s first production, Tere Mere Sapne, in 1996. Though the film did well, Arshad’s next few films failed to make an impact. Things changed dramatically with his memorable role as ‘Circuit’ in Munnabhai M.B.B.S. The sequel Lage Raho Munnabhai won Arshad his first award in the Best Comedian category. Movies like Dhamaal, Golmaal and Kabul Express further cemented Arshad’s position. He’s now winning rave reviews for Ishqiya and is looking forward to his home production, Hum Tum Aur Ghost.

What would you do if Superman paid you a visit?
Ask him how difficult is it to use the loo in that outfit!

Your typical Sunday?
My Sundays are totally dedicated to my kids. I love cuddling up to them and playing with them all day.

If you were stranded on a desert island and could keep five things with you, what would you choose?
A pen knife so that I could build a mall. Then I’d just pick up the other four things I need. Smart, na!

Breaking news is…
...that freedom of speech is a myth.

If you could go back in time, which period of history would you go back to and why?
I’d go back to the 1940s and ask Gandhiji to please come and save India.

The best joke you’ve ever heard?
That I won the national award last year.

The craziest rumour you’ve heard about yourself?
That I am from Bhopal. I have never even been to Bhopal!

You’re sentimental about…
The time I worked in a photography lab, developing and printing photographs, buying a vada pav for lunch and hoping for a comfortable life.

If you had to make a comedy film, who would you cast?
Arshad Warsi.

One household chore you’d rather do yourself?
Settle my drawers.

The turning point of your life?
First Munnabhai and now Ishqiya.

Three places you love shopping in?
New York, London and Thailand.

If you had to spend one crore in a day, what would you buy and do?
Two bikes, two watches and a party would do the trick or maybe I’d give it to Shah Rukh as a signing amount.

Your exercise routine?
I get up at 6 am, run for 45 minutes, do weight training for one body part, and I eat every two hours.

One thing you love about your partner.
Maria is very, very practical.

What do you do in a crisis?
Sit very quietly in one place and figure out how to get out of it.

If you had to go for a fancy dress party, what’s the whackiest costume you would come up with?
I would combine the costumes of Superman and James Bond. Red cape, red underwear and a tuxedo inside.

Your best pick up line for Angelina Jolie?
Do you believe in love at first sight or should I walk back again!

The one place you want to visit and why?
Ladakh on a bike. It’s amazing.

If you were an animal, which animal would you be and why ?
A cute puppy because every hot girl wants one!

If you could eat anything and never put on weight, what would you live on?
Chocolates, pastries, cakes and some hard core Punjabi and Muslim food.
