Born and brought up in London, Upen Patel was studying computer science when he decided to become a model. After winning Zee TV’s supermodel hunt in 2002, Upen modelled for several leading brands and designers. Next, he did music videos, after which he finally made his Bollywood debut in the murder mystery, 36 China Town. His second film, Namastey London, did well but the next few films, including One Two Three and Money Hai to Honey Hai didn’t. However, not willing to be written off so easily, Upen recently surprised everyone with his special appearance in Ajab Prem Ki Ghazab Kahani and his much improved Hindi.
What are you reading at the moment?
I’m reading two books at the moment. One is in Hindi, a collection of 51 short stories by Nobel prize winners from around the world and the other is Tender Is The Night by the great Scott Fitzgerald.

Go back to sleep, hoping that when I woke up again I’d be turned back into a man.

‘The Outsider.’ Sometimes I feel it’s me against the world.
Your song for all moods?
I can’t name one song but I love piano instrumentals.
Your idea of a great weekend?
At home with my mum and two dogs and no Blackberry.
Your most recent purchase?
I bought a ticket for Hannah Montana’s (Miley Cyrus’s) concert for my niece as she is crazy about her.
Which current reality show would you participate in and why?
None whatsoever. I am not made for a reality show.
Five musts in your wardrobe?
I need to have a black suit, white shirt, belt, shoes and cuff links.
What are you addicted to?
I’m addicted to cinema, everything to do with it, I watch about 80 movies a month, and I don’t just watch them, I study them, I download scripts and read them, I can keep talking cinema.

Thankfully none. I am quite a daredevil.
If you could ask for any talent/skill, what would it be?
I wish my Hindi were as good as Shah Rukh Khan’s.

I love football.
