He is currently being treated at the Wockhardt hospital in Nashik. "He has suffered internal bleeding and multiple fractures, especially in the lower part of the body, for which we had to conduct surgeries. He is conscious now, but under observation," said Dr Wahida Bagwan from the hospital.
"I spoke with him, and Toshi asked about the well-being of fellow members who were with him in the car. We have not told him about Aatik’s death yet," says Toshi’s friend, Rajesh Banga.
Bollywood is praying for the singer’s quick recovery. Actor Shahana Goswami, who worked with him in the film Jashn, for which he did the playback, was shocked at the news. "Oh my God! I pray that he recovers soon, and is back to his usual strength. I really hope he does not suffer too much pain." Anil Sharma, the director of Veer, for which Toshi sang, says, "All my best wishes are with him. May God bless him, and I wish him a speedy recovery and least amount of pain."
The news of the accident has also upset fans. “It’s very sad. Hope Toshi recovers soon enough,” says Manisha Arora, a student. “Why does God do all bad things to good people? Get well soon, Toshi,” says 26-year-old Arun Pandey.
Toshi shot to fame with a talent hunt show on TV, and became a hit with the popular song Mahi Mahi (Raaz — The Mystery Continues). He also sang in films such as Jail, Jashn and Veer. Incidentally, the singer faced another life threat in 2008, when some unidentified men attacked him soon after he became popular on the TV show.
