Prachi Desai’s unintentional fashion ‘faux pas’ has left her red-faced. At a recent promotional event for her latest film Once Upon A Time In Mumbaai, Prachi was spotted wearing a dress (top left) identical to one worn by Kareena Kapoor (top right) at the launch of a fashion store in June.
Her embarrassment was compounded by the fact that Prachi is extra cautious to never ‘repeat’ something her contemporaries have donned. “I pick my outfits cautiously, as I don’t like repeating something that’s already been worn by someone else. My fans look up to me and I want to look fresh every time they discuss my style statement,” she said, so far unaware of her ‘mistake’.When we told her that the Zara outfit she wore was the same as that sported by Bebo, Prachi sounded flustered. "Really? Well, I have to clarify that I did not repeat it… a friend gifted that dress to me three-four months ago. I just happened to wear it," she said, sounding evidently embarrassed. "If it happens accidentally, people shouldn’t make a hue and cry about it!"
Her explanations aren’t pacifying fashion pundits, though. “Prachi should have been careful. She’s a pubic figure and cannot afford to repeat something at such short notice,” says stylist Ranjunee Chakma.
“One shouldn’t copy blindly. But I wouldn’t call it a face-off; two individuals can accessorise differently, even
if they’re wearing the same dress.”
