Mugdha Godse was shooting for an ad when director Madhur Bhandarkar spotted her. From there to Bhandarkar’s next film Fashion, which releases next month, it has been an exhilarating journey to Bollywood for the model, in town for the launch of a new Gold’s Gym branch.
Of course, Mugdha is no stranger to fashion, having joined the national and international fashion circuit long before she won the Gladrags Mega Model 2002 contest, where she was also declared Miss Body Beautiful. In 2004, she participated in the Miss India pageant, where she was delcared Miss Perfect 10.
In Fashion, which purports to take an inside look at the glamour industry, Mugdha plays Janet, an ultra glam model, alongside Priyanka Chopra and Kangana Ranaut. “The role is close to my heart, the character is a strong one,” says the model, who represented India in the Best Model of the World contest in 2002."
Having participated in an acting workshop in Anupam Kher’s academy before she began the film, Mugdha enjoyed working with Priyanka and Kangana, her seniors in the profession. “I never felt overshadowed by them. Priyanka is really very sweet, we have become great friends,” she says.
As a fash frat veteran, playing a model was easy enough. “I couldn’t have asked for a better debut. Mine is a performance-oriented role, and Madhur Sir is an excellent director. The research was fantastic, this is a very realistic film on the fashion industry,” says Mugdha.
Having signed a three-film contract with Percept Pictures, Mugdha has understandably cut down on ramp shows. “I want to concentrate on films, rather than modelling assignments,” she says.
