Actor Shahid Kapoor does not approve of the Board of Cricket Control in India (BCCI) reportedly blaming girlfriends/wives of players (including cricketer Virat Kohli’s alleged girlfriend and Shahid’s former co-star Anushka Sharma) for India’s recent loss in the test series in England. He puts forth his point strongly in an interview with us.What do you think of BCCI’s observation (about WAGs being a reason for the defeat)?
Everyone is an adult and an individual personality, and they can meet whoever they want. I personally wouldn’t feel comfortable if those kinds of restrictions were put around me. And secondly, to say something like that right after we have lost a series very badly is almost like trying to put the blame on something which isn’t a fundamental reason. We need to question the cricket and not people’s personal time.
Do you think the blame is largely on Anushka?
I don’t want to specifically comment on that. But as I said, I don’t like the idea of creating restrictions.
Being a sports fan, how do you see the test series loss?
It’s the same team that has performed amazingly in the past. It’s just that it has gone through a bad patch. And here we are slinging mud at each other, which is usually how it goes. MS Dhoni is one of the most successful captains we have ever had. And most successful people can also make mistakes, or they can take take a call that can go against them. I don’t think it’s right to use excuses to say that we went wrong.

There’s a perception that your career took a dip after your break-up with Kareena (Kapoor). Any comments.
In fact, there’s more pressure when you are in a relationship. You need to take out time for your girlfriend. And I have never used something like that as an excuse. I made choices which were just not right. And some of them didn’t come out correctly.
