Actor Rahul Bose was invited for the opening ceremony of the Commonwealth Games by Sports Minister, Dr MS Gill. Bose was enthralled by what he saw at the stadium.
"The entry into the stadium was egalitarian and totally non-discriminatory. Security personnel were friendly, relaxed but very firm. Everything was orderly, but time consuming, which I had expected, due to the huge crowd. We had super tickets on the right of the main camera at the stadium. The stadium itself looked beautiful, modern and energetic. The show started spectacularly. There was an 'Oh-my-god!' moment in the entire stadium when the helium balloon began to rise - as in a Spielberg movie. Another gasp moment was when the kids took off their beige kurtas to reveal tricolour kurtas. Here was the perfect chance for the best to stand shoulder to shoulder and remind the nation that we are not a country of bunglers and finish-everything-at-the-last-minute doers," Bose said.
