If you dig some gags this weekend, catch international comic Rainer Hersch, as he performs at The Best In Stand-Up Comedy show with Chris Mccausland and Rajneesh Kapoor tonight, in the city.
The comedian, who has performed in Mumbai a number of times in the past, finds the city “very inspiring for joke-writing”. “Coming from London, I find everything very unusual and interesting about this great city of 22 million people. I should know because yesterday I got on a bus with ALL of them!,” he says.
Ask him what strikes him the most unique about Mumbaikars, and he chuckles, “They are friendly and always up for a laugh. I like the word 'Mumbaikar'. It sounds like everyone has got a bike. Though, half of them go around with the words 'Horn Please OK' painted on the back their cars.”
Tonight, the comic plans to work on stuff about being in Mumbai. “I’ll write it down only in the afternoon. On Thursday, I found out about the Sharad Pawar slapping incident five minutes before going on stage. During my show, I did some stuff on it. It was funny that people were being searched at the entrance to the Palladium mall. What were they looking for, I wonder? Hands?”
The comics are featured as a part of BBC Entertainment’s comedy show Come Fly With Me, which includes comic-duo Matt Lucas and David Williams, as they play almost 50 characters in a mock-documentary set in an airport terminal.
Watch Rainer Hersch, Chris Mccausland and Rajneesh Kapoor tonight at 8.30 pm. Entry: Rs 500.
