The mythology fever is spreading from television to the movies —even if it’s with a modern twist.
Mani Ratnam’s next project will be an adaptation of the Ramayan featuring Abhishek Bachchan and Aishwarya Rai Bachchan as modern-day Ram and Sita.
The role that has been offered to Govinda is that of a modern-day human avatar of Hanuman. Govinda has agreed to the project. The role of the 21st century Ravan will be essayed by the top Tamil actor Vikram.
The project is being made in Tamil too. Piquantly enough, Vikram will be playing the part of today’s Ram in the Tamil version.
, Ratnam has been toying with several projects. One of them, to be made with Aamir Khan and Kareena Kapoor, fell through. Another project was in the air, centred around a flower market, but that has withered aswell. Right now it’s the Ramayan Retold for Ratnam.
