Ranbir Kapoor is an extremely important person in my life: Katrina Kaif

Katrina Kaif usually remains guarded about issues concerning her personal life. Speculation has been rife about her alleged relationship with Ranbir Kapoor, but she has remained tight-lipped so far.

Now, for the first time perhaps, she opens up, says she won’t talk about day-to-day "updates" regarding her life, yet acknowledges it as "our relationship".

The latest rumour is that you will soon move into a new apartment with Ranbir Kapoor. Do you feel the need to clarify these things?

See, I understand people’s desire for an update — to know what’s happening in someone’s life. So, whether it was the pictures from Ibiza (the infamous paparazzi images of her with Ranbir), who’s coming to whose birthday, or who’s buying a house, people always want an update. But this is where I draw the line [by not reacting to the rumours]… because then, you have to constantly give updates about your personal life, which is something I’ve never done.

Even otherwise, you seem to make a conscious effort to not talk about him.

If you ask me generally about Ranbir, I would — rather than commenting on our day-to-day activities — say that he is an extremely important person in my life. I have a lot of regard for him. He is an amazing person, and an amazing actor. That’s the best way I can put it. And I feel everyone — to a large extent — is aware of his presence in my life.

Is marriage on the cards?

Again, this is something that, I’d say, falls under the ‘day-to-day’ update of what’s going on in our relationship. So, I won’t comment on it. Marriage is a serious decision, and there can be a lot of changes in your life that have to be factored in to make your marriage successful. So, it’s something you should approach with a lot of maturity, thought and love. When, and if, that happens, it won’t be hidden.

Why do you neither accept nor deny your relationship openly?

What does it mean to ‘accept’? Giving an official statement will again be like an update... I think it’s a clear enough statement to make that Ranbir has a very important presence in my life. He is a big part of my life. People can understand, and be sufficiently satisfied with that. Beyond that, at this point, I don’t think it’s necessary to elaborate any more.

Do you ever wonder why your personal life is talked about so much?

I genuinely feel that I am not in the news in an unreasonable manner. I have been making news in a balanced manner (smiles).

But there’s a perception that you stay away from media.

It’s not like I am consciously trying to hide. That’s the way I live my life.So things like how I spend my evenings, or decisions on where I go and who accompanies me to a place cannot depend on the media. It (the media) cannot curb my life and behaviour in any way. When people say I avoid the media, it’s not true at all. It’s just that I am an introvert by nature. I live my life the way I want to.

You have worked with Hrithik Roshan again in Bang Bang. How was the experience?

While Zindagi (Zindagi Na Milegi Dobara; 2012) was more of a fun film, this is a fast-paced and intense action movie. As an actor, Hrithik has immense focus. He sees every shot to perfection.

Did you watch Knight And Day (2010) before the shoot started?

Yes, but when Sid (Siddharth Anand; director) gave me the script, I felt it was completely different. Though it’s an adaptation in a certain way, he has interpreted it very well. He has managed to capture the essence of Tom Cruise’s character.

Have you taken cues from Cameron Diaz’s role?

Since Sid had to adapt it for Indian audiences, the character changed a lot, and there wasn’t a huge scope to do that. He was quite clear about what he wanted.
