Ranbir Kapoor may’ve gone to town saying he never parties on his birthday and so won’t, even on his 29th on Tuesday, but his pals had other plans. As the actor shared a quiet dinner with parents, Rishi and Neetu, at Mumbai’s Aurus nightclub, a big surprise bash was waiting to break out.

Actor Sanjay Dutt, filmmakers Karan Johar and Ayan Mukerji were the first to be spotted at the venue at around 11pm, while Ranbir’s Rockstar co-star and alleged ex-girlfriend Nargis Fakhri followed. She was welcomed with a warm hug from Ranbir’s mom Neetu. Soon, the scene turned starrier, with filmmaker Imtiaz Ali, actor Priyanka Chopra and Ranbir’s former flame Deepika Padukone in tow.

The bunch partied well into the wee hours, without caring for rumoured animosities within Ranbir’s various love interests. To pump up the mood, they turned up with Rockstar caps and tees, and everyone wore them as the celebrations gained momentum.

Just a day before his birthday, Ranbir had said, “I’m not a birthday person because I don’t like to build expectations around one day.” After the bash, however, he seemed touched by the gesture. “I had not planned anything... this is a lovely surprise by my friends,” he said.
