Ram Gopal Varma’s

is in trouble again, 10 days before its release. Sonal Mehta has sued the director and the producers, claiming credit and remuneration for the film’s script. Last year, Mehta had filed a complaint against Varma in the Film Writers’ Association, this time she’s moved court.

Varma is non-plussed: “This has happened with me earlier, during Sarkar Raj and Agyaat too. At the Factory, I had 20-30 people working on 30-40 ideas. I liked this script written by Rohit Banawilkar. If it’s not my script, why would I not give credit where its due?”

Why now?
Producer Sheetal Talwar points out that plenty has been written on Rann’s subject over the last year and a half. So why has Sonal Mehta woken up to it now? Where was she earlier?

“The FWA has said that Sonal’s and Rohit’s scripts are not in any way similar. Sonal says the script is registered in her name but she has no contract with Ramu,” Talwar argues, admitting that there was a hearing yesterday. “We have asked the honourable High Court for time till Friday to present our case.
