If the buzz in the industry trade circle is any indication, then another star kid is gearing up for a launch in the movies. Boney Kapoor and Sridevi’s daughter Jhanavi is the next pedigree to follow in her parents’ footsteps. However, the film is not going to be a Bollywood bang, but an expensive socio-fantasy extravaganza in Telugu opposite Chiranjeevi’s son, Ramcharan Teja.
According to our source, “Ashwini Dutt, who produced the Telugu original, is planning a sequel to his 1991 Chiranjeevi-Sridevi film, Jagadeka Veerudu Athiloka Sundari, which was later dubbed in Hindi as Aadmi Aur Apsara. The idea is to recreate the Chiranjeevi-Sridevi magic and that’s why Jhanavi comes into the picture opposite Ramcharan Teja.”
The script is currently being worked on and the film will go into production only in the second half of next year. Our source informs that the director is yet to be finalised, though K Raghavendra Rao, who helmed the Telugu original, may or may not be brought on board for the sequel.
Interestingly, the original Telugu version is one of Ramcharan’s favourite films of his superstar father. Media reports in the South quote the young star saying that given an offer, he would love to work on
a sequel to Jagadeka Veerudu Athiloka Sundari.
Earlier, this year, there were reports that Jhanavi would make her debut opposite Akhil, son of Nagarjuna. But apparently, Ramcharan is being preferred now, after his film, Magadhjeera became a huge hit last year, following a successful debut with Chiruta in 2007.
When contacted, Boney Kapoor denied the news saying, “It’s still too early for Jhanavi to think about acting. She’s just 13 years old and is studying in the eight standard. And why would I want to launch her in a Telugu film?”
However, Ashwini Dutt didn’t rule out approaching Kapoor to cast his daughter in the sequel. “It’s a good idea to see Ramcharan and Jhanavi in the sequel to Jagadeka Veerudu Athilola Sundari, more so because the Chiranjeevi-Sridevi movie was a huge hit,” he said, adding, “But it’s a little too early to say anything for sure now. The scripting has just begun and only after it’s complete can I think of talking to Boney, who’s been a good friend for many years.”
