He is the latest Bollywood star to own an Audi (it’s also believed that he is being signed on as the face of the German car company in India). And understandably so, a couple of days ago, when Saif Ali Khan and his wife Kareena Kapoor went for a spin in his new mean machine, he immediately attracted attention. But what’s most interesting is that they apparently went to Wasabi at the Taj Mahal Palace hotel in Colaba for their car’s debut outing.
Last year, Saif was embroiled in a controversy after businessman Iqbal Sharma had alleged that the actor assaulted him during an altercation at the restaurant. Later, Saif was taken into custody before being released on bail.
“Wasabi is their favourite restaurant. Unlike last year, they didn’t come with friends this time around. But we were surprised (to spot them at the hotel) after the infamous incident,” says an onlooker, who spotted the two at the five-star property. “While Saif sported long hair, Kareena looked pretty in a printed dress. Their arrival created a lot of excitement.”
On being contacted, the actor “couldn’t answer” questions about his Wasabi visit, but opened up about his new wheels. “I drove the car in Race 2 and, from then on, I loved it,” he says. So, has he become the car brand’s ambassador in India? “Not exactly. But there’s an arrangement between the company and me that includes a certain number of appearances, among other things,” says Saif.
