Gabbar Singh

He had a role as short as a tweet, but it made him immortal. The death, on Sunday, of actor Mac Mohan who played Sambha, the bad man Gabbar Singh’s sidekick in the Bollywood classic Sholay, got celebs and fans tweeting their condolences.

While Sholay co-star Amitabh Bachchan called Mac Mohan “a soft-hearted and gentle soul”, actors Priyanka Chopra, Riteish Deshmukh and filmmaker Madhur Bhandarkar tweeted heartfelt RIPs.

Mac Mohan’s fans too were depressed. Rashesh Dave from London tweeted, “After Gabbar, Sambha leaves the Ramgarh scene.”
Mandar2404 pointed out the silver lining: “Gabbar and Sambha are united again.” Gabbar Singh, played by Amjad Khan who died in 1992, was Sholay’s legendary dacoit. User Jagan520 wrote, “In the pantheon of sidekicks, Sambha was a modern day Sancho Panza.” Vijay_D’s tweet, a take on a famous dialogue from the film, was the wittiest. “Arey o Sambha... yeh swarg ke log kaun chakki ka atta khaate hai re?”
