Bored of waiting at the Mumbai airport due to flight delays or cancellations? Now, two young entrepreneurs have come up with a quick fix for this problem. They’re offering films, portable DVD players, toys and video games on rent to entertain flyers. Passengers can carry these articles on the flight and return them to a designated employee at the destination location.
Surbhit Shah, 27, started Entertainment On Move with his brother, Amit and launched it on April 1. To avail of the entertainment, you can either book your choices online 72 hours before you travel, or just visit the airport lounge. Though Surbhit recommends booking in advance. “There is a limited variety at the lounge,” he says.
Currently they have over 20,000 titles of Hindi and English movies available. “We’ve tied up with 70mm. They give us the latest releases,” says Surbhit, who plans to offer TV shows and world cinema soon. Hiring a film and a DVD player for a flight journey costs Rs 199, but if you’re only using the services at the airport, it’ll cost Rs 99. Mario, Speed Racer and Street Fighter are some of the games available on the portable in-built handset available on hire.
Though the project is in its trial stage and is only applicable for flights between Mumbai and Delhi, it will expand to Hyderabad and Bangalore by the end of May. “We’re also talking to the Indian railways to start similar services on the Rajdhani,” says Surbhit.
