Romancing Mumbai

Some years back, a Reader’s Digest survey concluded that Mumbai is one of the rudest cities in the world! But nothing can be farther from the truth because it is the people of this city that make it truly vibrant and special.

I’ve lived in Mumbai all my life. But everyday, my experiences in this city make me fall more and more in love with it. Some years back, a Reader’s Digest survey concluded that Mumbai is one of the rudest cities in the world! But in my opinion, nothing can be farther from the truth because it is the people of this city that make it truly vibrant and special.

There are complete strangers who have touched my life in so many ways... the didi (sister) who taught me all about BEST buses and helped me get down at the right bus stop when I was a scared 12 year old travelling alone for the first time. The rickshw driver who came all the way from Bandra to Chembur to return my lost cell phone, the ladies who took care of me when I nearly fainted in a local train and a friendly gentleman who gave me some very valuable career advice in the passport office, to name a few.

I could go on and on with this list. But today I’d just like to salute the bindaas (cool) and friendly attitude of Mumbai and all the Mumbaikars because the spunk and spirit of this city and it’s people is what makes it special.
