He usually prefers his bat to do all the talking. But when the God of Cricket decided to open up through Twitter on late Tuesday night, he had the biggest of stars on the micro-blogging site running for cover. Cricketer Sachin Tendulkar, with his twitter debut through the handle sachin_rt, toppled the fan following of Bollywood stars such as Shah Rukh Khan and Salman Khan within hours.
The Master Blaster had 32,505 followers within 12 hours, as compared to SRK’s 10,342 and Salman’s 18,833 on the entire first day, with the figures dramatically rising by the minute. “Finally the original SRT is on Twitter n the first thing I’d like to do is wish my colleagues the best in the windies,” Tendulkar wrote in his opening post at midnight. He also congratulated fellow cricketer Virender Sehwag on becoming a dad for the second time. “Woke up to the good news that Sehwag has become father of another baby boy,” he wrote.
As celebrity friends of the cricketer started spreading the news about him tweeting, fans followed in abundance. “A massive welcome to the legend himself.. SACHIN TENDULKAR!!” wrote Siddharth Mallya. “The original rock star is here welcome @sachin_rt. Give him all the love he deserves,” tweeted Arjun Rampal. “Finally on twitter, The God of cricket himself,” tweeted Shilpa Shetty.
On Wednesday morning, Tendulkar tweeted about his worrying hand injury, “Got stitches removed. Dr feels it will (sic) some more time to recover”. Beating initial speculation that the account could be fake, sources close to him confirmed its authenticity.
