He may be one of Bollywood’s most charitable stars, but Salman Khan can be quite heartless too. In Mumbai on Tuesday, the star laughed as his bouncers manhandled a woman journalist.
Sallu’s bodyguards got into a scuffle with TV reporter Ekta Suri at the
of Smita Thackeray’s film
. An eyewitness, TV reporter Dolly Singh, told HT City that Khan’s bouncers dragged Ekta roughly while she tried to take his sound-byte. “When Ekta fell, everyone including Salman laughed. She shouted: “
Tum log ko dikhta nahin hai kya, idiot ho kya?
” (Can’t you people see, are you idiots?). The bouncers retorted rudely and Salman merely asked, “
Gaali bhi record hui na?
A Hindi news channel reporter, who was present, said, “At the press meet he talked about what the relationship between the media and the society should be, and this is how he behaved.” Singh added, “There wasn’t much crowd. So, there was no need for the bouncers to behave like this. Generally, Salman is courteous with women, but the way he laughed hurt. He must apologise.”
Salman’s spokesperson said, “The journalist was being too aggressive and fell. That’s why Salman laughed. The bouncers were only doing their job.”
The actor’s confrontational attitude towards the media is not new. A few years ago, he slapped a reporter who asked him about the black buck case.
On the other hand, girlfriend Katrina Kaif is being lauded for her sensitivity. At a similar incident in Delhi on Tuesday, when one of Kat’s bouncers stepped on a journalist’s foot, she stopped to check if the girl was fine. She even asked the bodyguard to “be careful” the next time.
