The evolution of former prime minister Indira Gandhi as an iconic national leader from a "daughter, wife and mother" will soon hit the TV screens with a leading channel planning a bio-pic on the slain leader.
The serial, to be shot in Hindi and English, will trace the life of the "iconic, inspirational, multi-faceted and extraordinary" leader as a "daughter, wife, mother and political leader".
It will bring alive the trials and tribulations in the life of Gandhi.
"Channel 9X is planning a serial on the life of Gandhi. It will be shot in Hindi as well as English and present her story as a daughter, wife, mother and leader," Indrani Mukherjee, CEO of INX Media, said.
The channel is also planning to rope in best international experts in key areas like direction and it would be made sure that the series also attracts audiences even from abroad.
"Our aim is to present a life story (of Indira Gandhi) that will captivate all viewers," Mukherjee said.
Speculations are rife about some top Bollywood actress being roped in for playing the lead role.
A former MP Uttam Singh Pawar, who is also associated with the serial said: "I am proud to be involved with this project which according to me will be a great tribute to the iconic leader."
Earlier films on Gandhi include 'Bandung Sonata', which focused on the first Asian-African conference in 1955 in which Perizad Zorabian, a Bollywood actor, played the role of the leader.
Another film 'Amu' depicted the events that followed the brutal assassination of the Congress leader.
