As Shah Rukh Khan’s detention at the Newark airport in US recently made headlines, reactions to the news, for and against the act, also grabbed attention. While Salman Khan was thought to have drawn out the daggers again, cricketer Harbhajan Singh too faced flak as he attempted to justify the actions of the American airport officials as “routine”.
But, Bhajji doesn’t want to be misinterpreted as someone against SRK. “Shah Rukh is the biggest superstar we have and a good friend too,” he says. “Woh toh humara [India’s] summaan hai. Why should I speak badly of him?”
The off-spinner, while stating that every country has the right to safeguard its protection, reiterates that any discrimination in the name of religion is not right. “No one should be harassed because he/she has a particular surname,” says Bhajji, who was recently in town to mark his association with watch brand Movado.
A keen shopper himself, Bhajji likes “big” things — his Hummer for example. “I like big dials on my wrist,” says the cricketer who has quite a “collection” of them. “I have a number of them to go with what I wear,” he says.
And how is his Hummer
running? Has he managed the much-planned drive to Dharamshala yet? “Yeah, it’s doing fine,” says Bhajji, adding, “But no, haven’t got the time to go on the drive.”
