Shakti Mohan has a Tees Maar Khan to look forward to now. The winner of Dance India Dance Season 2 will be shaking aleg with Katrina Kaif and Akshay Kumar in the film’s title track.
In a story carried in HT Café yesterday, choreographer Remo D’Souza who was one of the masters on the dance reality show, had been quoted as saying that when Farah Khan announced that the winner would do a promotional video with Kumar in her first home production, he’d known that Shakti had edged out crowd favourite, Dharmesh Yelande, even though the verdict was not yet out. “We haven’t seen too many guys in item numbers,” he’d reasoned.
I had no clue: Farah Khan
When asked if she’d been given some kind of intimation before the result was declared, Khan asserted, “I swear I had no clue. The contest had narrowed down to these two and honestly, I thought Dharmesh was going to win.” Khan admits that she hasn’t been following the show much, but from what little she’d seen, Dharmesh had impressed her. “Shakti is good too but Dharmesh was also extremely popular. Besides, if dictated by public voting, such shows in the past have always favoured guys over girls,” she points out. “On my part, I clearly said that the winner would be dancing with Akshay (Kumar), Akshaye (Khanna) and Katrina (Kaif). May be the names of the other two stars was drowned out by the noise around.”
Khan is planning to shoot the song during the last schedule on a lavish set in Mumbai. It could be in September or even earlier, in July. Shakti will get between 30 seconds to a minute of screen time.
Zee TV had entered into a similar tie-up with Salman Khan’s Wanted and now, with Khan being one of the judges on Dance India Dance Li’l Masters, the channel cracked a deal with her too. “It’s good publicity for both of us,” she reasons.
The track is James Bond meets Austin Powers. “It’s sexy with a fun twist to it,” says Khan. “Since Bond girls are always glam, both Katrina and Shakti will look really hot. Shakti’s Chicago act in the DID finale was fab. Terrance (her master Terrance Lewis) made her do a lot of aerial stunts that she pulled off amazing well. I’m looking forward to working with her.” You wonder if Dharmesh will also get to feature in her film too and Khan says, “You never know. Dharmesh is a lovely boy and dancer. And his master, Geeta (Kapoor), has been my assistant for years.”
That’s a wrap!
Farah Khan recently hosted a party for the cast and crew of Tees Maar Khan to mark the successful completion of the film’s first schedule. The reason for this impromptu bash was that there had been no wrap up party at Malshej Ghat where the team was based for a little over three weeks. “Everyone was being packed off in batches. By the end of the schedule, there were just a few of us left,” she points out. “So, when I got back to the city, I rounded up everyone and we had a blast.”
There were no filmi types around. Apart from her actors, there was Riteish Deshmukh who came with Khan’s brother Sajid after a round of promotions for their film Housefull. Akshay came with son Aarav. The actor doesn’t drink but his director got sloshed. She admits with a laugh, “I got drunk for the first time in two years.” Cheers!
