Mother-daughter duo Sharmila Tagore and Soha Ali Khan starrer Life Goes On will kickstart the first ever Pravasi film festival to be held here in January.
"The film, directed by Sangeeta Datta, will be a part of the inaugural ceremony which will be attended by the two actresses," Anil Joshi, director of the festival, said at a press conference here today.
The four-day event, aimed at providing a platform to NRI filmmakers, will be attended by noted directors like Mira Nair, Krishna Shah, Deepa Mehta and Gurinder Chadha.
"Filmmakers like Mira Nair and Deepa Mehta have made a name for themselves as the best of the lot who dabble with the cinema of the NRIs and they will be a part of the fest," said actor Manoj Bajpai, who is a patron of the fest.
Actor Saeed Jaffery will be honoured with the lifetime achievement award at the fest.
The festival, to be held from January 3-6, is being organised in association with the government of Mauritius, since the island country has a huge population of Indian-origin people.
"Using world cinema for the unification of the Indian diaspora is a bright idea. Mauritius is all for this fest, since it is a prominent location for shooting Bollywood films," said Anerood Jugnauth, President of Mauritius.
